Urogynecology is a subspecialty of gynecology that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders in women. These disorders can include urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, and other pelvic floor issues. Urogynecologists are specially trained to diagnose and treat these conditions, often using minimally invasive techniques. A urogynecologist will often take a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment. This may include physical therapy, lifestyle modifications, medications, and/or surgery. Urogynecology is a relatively new specialty, and its goal is to improve the quality of life for women with pelvic floor disorders. Urogynecologists are committed to providing comprehensive care that takes into account the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of a woman’s condition. Urogynecology is an important part of women’s health care. It is important to talk to your doctor about any pelvic floor issues you may be experiencing, as early diagnosis and treatment can help to improve your quality of life.
