Urogynecologists may use a variety of diagnostic techniques and treatments, including pelvic floor physical therapy, biofeedback, medications, specialized surgical techniques, and minimally invasive procedures. Urogynecologic conditions can be caused by a variety of factors, including childbirth, obesity, aging, prior surgeries, and chronic medical conditions. Urogynecologists are uniquely positioned to assess the patient’s symptoms and physical findings and to provide personalized treatment plans. Treatment plans may include lifestyle modifications, physical therapy, medications, and/or surgery. Urogynecologists are also experts in providing preventive care, such as lifestyle modifications and physical therapy, to reduce the risk of developing pelvic floor disorders. Furthermore, urogynecologists may provide psychological support for patients who are struggling with the physical and emotional impacts of pelvic floor disorders. Urogynecologists collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for the patient. They are an essential part of the healthcare team that provides comprehensive and compassionate care to women suffering from urogynecologic conditions.
