Gynecology is closely related to obstetrics, which focuses on the care of pregnant women and their unborn babies. Gynecologists typically perform a variety of tests, including pelvic exams, Pap smears, and ultrasounds, to diagnose and treat a range of conditions. Common gynecological conditions include endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, uterine fibroids, and pelvic inflammatory disease. Gynecologists may also provide counseling and advice on birth control, fertility, and menopause. In addition, some gynecologists specialize in performing minimally invasive surgery to correct gynecological issues. Gynecologists also play an important role in educating women about preventive health care.
