Obstetrics is a branch of medicine that focuses on pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Obstetrics and gynaecology (OB/GYN) are a surgical area in which obstetrics and gynaecology (OB/GYN) are merged as a medical speciality. Prenatal care is essential for screening for pregnancy problems. This includes routine office visits, physical examinations, and lab tests. Obstetricians only practise obstetrics, which is the branch of medicine that deals with pregnancy and childbirth. Obstetricians are frequently the first people women see for routine prenatal care. Prenatal care is the routine health care that pregnant women should receive from an obstetrician or midwife. Prenatal development is the formation of a baby from a single-celled zygote generated by the combination of a sperm and an egg. Prenatal diagnosis is the diagnosis of a pregnancy before birth using procedures such as ultrasonography, chorionic villus sampling (CVS), and amniocentesis.
