Prenatal care is essential for screening for pregnancy problems. This includes routine office visits, physical examinations, and lab tests. Prenatal care is the routine health care that pregnant women should receive from an obstetrician or midwife. Prenatal development is the formation of a baby from a single-celled zygote generated by the combination of a sperm and an egg. Prenatal diagnosis is the diagnosis of a pregnancy before birth using procedures such as ultrasonography, chorionic villus sampling (CVS), and amniocentesis.
