Postpartum period, also referred to as the “fourth trimester,” is the time period following childbirth. During this period, the mother’s body undergoes several physical, emotional, and hormonal changes. It is a crucial time for both mother and baby, as it is when the mother establishes a bond with her child and adjusts to her new role as a mother. The postpartum period begins immediately after childbirth and can last for up to six weeks. During this time period, the mother’s body is transitioning from pregnancy to post-pregnancy. This transition can be difficult, and many mothers experience a wide range of physical and emotional changes. Physically, the mother’s body is recovering from the delivery and adjusting to the hormonal changes that occur during the postpartum period. These changes can cause a variety of postpartum symptoms, such as fatigue, headaches, constipation, sore breasts, and vaginal bleeding. Additionally, the mother may experience mood swings and emotional changes as she adjusts to her new role as a mother. In addition to physical and emotional changes, the postpartum period is a time for the mother to bond with her baby and establish a breastfeeding relationship. During this period, the mother should rest and focus on her own recovery while also caring for her newborn. It is important that the mother receives adequate support from her family and friends during this time, as it can be overwhelming.
