Infertility is a condition that affects many couples trying to conceive. Fortunately, there are a variety of medical methods available to treat infertility. Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a procedure in which sperm is placed directly into the uterus. This is done to increase the chances of sperm meeting and fertilizing an egg. IUI is usually done with a partner’s sperm or donor sperm. It may be used alone or in combination with fertility medications. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a procedure in which eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and fertilized in a laboratory with sperm. Once the embryo is formed, it is then placed back into the uterus. IVF is often used in cases of unexplained infertility or if other treatments have not been successful. Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a procedure used in conjunction with IVF. In this procedure, a single sperm is injected directly into an egg. This increases the chances of fertilization. Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT) is a procedure in which eggs and sperm are placed directly into the fallopian tubes. This allows for natural fertilization to occur. Intrafallopian Tube Transfer (IFT) is a procedure in which embryos are placed directly into the fallopian tubes. This allows for natural fertilization to occur. Male Reproductive System is a procedure in which another woman carries and delivers a baby on behalf of a couple who is unable to do so. This is often used in cases of infertility or when a woman is unable to carry a pregnancy. These are just some of the medical methods available to treat infertility. In order to find out which procedure is right for you, it is important to discuss your options with your doctor.
