Male infertility is a condition that affects millions of men across the world. It is defined as a man’s inability to produce healthy, viable sperm, or to fertilize an egg. It is estimated that about 15 percent of couples experience infertility and of those, about 40 percent of cases are the result of male infertility. A number of factors can contribute to male infertility, including a low sperm count, abnormal sperm shape, or abnormal sperm movement. Other potential causes of infertility in men include lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, stress, and obesity. In addition, medical conditions such as diabetes, infections, and hormonal imbalances can also contribute to male infertility. Treatment for male infertility includes lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, and exercising regularly. In addition, medications, surgery, and assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) can be used to help men overcome infertility. No matter the cause of male infertility, it is important to seek medical advice and support. With the right treatment and lifestyle changes, many couples can successfully conceive a child.
