Gynaecological surgery is a type of surgery performed on the female reproductive organs and the structures that support them. This type of surgery can be used to treat various conditions, such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and uterine fibroids. In some cases, the surgery is necessary to remove cancerous or pre-cancerous tissue. Gynaecological surgery can be performed in a range of settings, including outpatient clinics, hospitals, and surgical centers. Depending on the type of procedure, it can involve endoscopy, laparoscopy, or open surgery. Endoscopic techniques use a camera to view inside the body and are often used to diagnose conditions and perform minor procedures. Laparoscopic surgery uses small incisions and tiny instruments to perform surgery. Open surgery requires a larger incision and typically involves removing or repairing the affected organ. Before undergoing surgery, a patient will typically have a physical examination and medical history review, as well as diagnostic tests such as ultrasounds, X-rays, CT scans, and MRI scans. The patient may also be asked to provide a blood sample for laboratory testing. During the procedure, the patient will be given general anesthesia and/or local anesthesia to reduce pain. The surgeon will then make an incision in the abdomen or the pelvic area and carefully remove or repair the affected organs. In some cases, the surgeon may also perform a biopsy to determine if cancerous cells are present. After the procedure is completed, the patient will be taken to a recovery room for further monitoring. If a patient is having a complex procedure, they may need to stay in the hospital for a few days.
