Cystocele

Cystocele

A cystocele, also known as a fallen bladder, is a condition in which a woman’s bladder bulges or sags into her vagina. This can be caused by weakened or torn muscles between the bladder and the vaginal wall. Cystoceles can cause urinary incontinence, difficulty urinating, or uncomfortable sex. The most common cause of cystocele is childbirth, as the intense pressure of contractions can weaken the muscles around the bladder. Other causes include aging, heavy lifting, chronic coughing, and menopause. Treatment options for cystocele can include lifestyle changes such as avoiding activities that cause strain on the bladder and pelvic floor muscles, as well as medications and surgery. Surgical interventions can include repairing the weakened or torn muscles, or inserting a sling to help support the bladder. In some cases, lifestyle changes and medications can improve symptoms of cystocele, but more severe cases may require surgery. It is important to speak with a doctor to discuss the best treatment option for your condition.
