Azoospermia is a medical condition in which a man's semen contains no sperm. It is the most severe form of male infertility, as it prevents fertilization from occurring naturally. Azoospermia can be caused by a number of factors, including physical or anatomical issues, hormonal imbalances, genetic disorders, or environmental factors. Treatment for azoospermia depends on the underlying cause and may include surgery, hormone therapy, or assisted reproductive technology such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). Azoospermia is diagnosed through a semen analysis. This test examines the semen under a microscope to check for the presence of sperm. If no sperm are found, the diagnosis is azoospermia. Blood tests may also be used to measure hormone levels and check for other possible causes. In some cases of azoospermia, no cause can be identified. This is known as idiopathic azoospermia. In other cases, azoospermia may be caused by physical blockages that prevent sperm from being released, such as a blocked vas deferens or an obstruction in the ejaculatory ducts.
