Antepartum

Antepartum

Antepartum is a term used to describe the period of time between a woman's last menstrual period and her delivery date. It covers the entire duration of pregnancy, including the first, second, and third trimesters. During this time, the mother undergoes numerous physical and emotional changes, and her baby continues to grow and develop. Antepartum care is an important part of prenatal care, and consists of regular visits to the obstetrician or midwife. During these visits, the mother's health is monitored, and tests such as ultrasounds and blood tests are done to assess the health of the baby. The obstetrician or midwife will also discuss nutrition, exercise, and other lifestyle factors that can affect the health of the baby. If any complications arise during the antepartum period, the obstetrician or midwife will recommend additional testing or treatments. These may include blood tests, ultrasounds, or fetal monitoring. The obstetrician or midwife will also provide advice and guidance on how to manage any issues that arise. Antepartum care is important for ensuring the health and safety of both mother and baby throughout the pregnancy. It is also a time for the mother to build a relationship with her obstetrician or midwife, and to discuss any questions or concerns she has.
