Pregnancy is the period of time when a woman carries a developing fetus or fetuses in her uterus. It usually lasts for 40 weeks from the last menstrual period and is divided into three trimesters. During this time, the fetus will develop all of its organs and body systems. The first trimester of pregnancy is the period from conception to the end of the twelfth week of gestation. During this time, the fetus develops its major organs, including the heart and brain. The placenta also forms, which is the organ that supplies essential nutrients and oxygen to the fetus. The second trimester of pregnancy is the period from the thirteenth week to the twenty-sixth week of gestation. During this time, the fetus continues to develop and grow, as well as gain weight. The organs and body systems also continue to mature. The third trimester of pregnancy is the period from the twenty-seventh week to the end of the pregnancy. During this time, the fetus continues to grow and gain weight. The organs and body systems are almost fully developed. The mother may also experience Braxton Hicks contractions, which are contractions of the uterus that help the body prepare for labor. Throughout the pregnancy, the mother should be sure to eat a balanced diet and get regular prenatal care, including regular checkups and screenings. This will help ensure that both the mother and the baby stay healthy throughout the pregnancy.
