An obstetrician is a medical doctor who specializes in pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. Obstetricians are responsible for providing medical care to pregnant women before, during, and after childbirth. They also provide health care to newborns and monitor the general health of both mother and baby. Obstetricians manage labor and delivery, as well as any complications that may arise during the birthing process. In addition, they provide counselling on topics such as nutrition, exercise, and family planning. They may also provide genetic counselling to couples who are at risk of passing on genetic diseases to their children. Obstetricians are also trained in detecting, diagnosing, and treating conditions related to pregnancy, such as preterm labor, gestational diabetes, and preeclampsia.
