Obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) is a medical specialty that focuses on the health and medical care of pregnant women, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system. OB/GYN physicians are trained to provide care for all aspects of a woman's health, including her reproductive system, childbirth, family planning, fertility, hormones, and general wellness. During an obstetrics visit, an OB/GYN will typically perform a physical exam, along with a pelvic exam. The OB/GYN may also order tests, such as ultrasounds and blood tests, to check for any abnormalities or to monitor the health of the fetus. During the visit, the doctor may also provide counseling and advice on nutrition, exercise, lifestyle, and any other issues related to pregnancy. During a gynecology visit, an OB/GYN will typically perform a physical exam, along with a pelvic exam. The OB/GYN may also order tests, such as Pap smears, to screen for cervical cancer or other diseases of the female reproductive system. During the visit, the doctor may also provide counseling and advice on contraception, family planning, and any other issues related to the female reproductive system.
