Amenorrhoea

Amenorrhoea

Amenorrhoea is a condition in which a woman’s menstrual cycle stops, either temporarily or permanently. It is also known as amenorrhea. Amenorrhoea can be caused by a variety of medical conditions, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid issues, hormonal imbalance, or pregnancy. It can also be caused by lifestyle factors, such as extreme physical or mental stress, excessive exercise, or eating disorders. Primary amenorrhoea is when a woman has never had a period, while secondary amenorrhoea is when a woman has previously had regular periods, but then stops having them. The primary symptom of amenorrhoea is the absence of menstrual periods. Other symptoms may include irregular periods, abnormal vaginal bleeding, weight gain, acne, and infertility. Amenorrhoea can have a significant impact on a woman’s health and wellbeing. It can cause physical problems, such as loss of bone density, and psychological problems, such as depression. Treatment for amenorrhoea depends on the underlying cause. Hormonal treatments are often used to restore regular menstrual cycles, and ovulation-inducing drugs may be prescribed for women who have difficulty getting pregnant. Other treatments may include lifestyle changes, such as weight loss and stress management. Surgery may also be necessary in some cases.
