Title : Roadmaps: Understanding sex trafficking through survivors stories (Part 1). Healing-centered communication: How to navigate sensitive conversations to empower patients (Part 2)

Abstract:

Part 1 is an interactive learning activity to increase awareness and understanding of sex trafficking. This training is designed for providers who support people who have survived exploitation and sex trafficking. Participants will learn from sex trafficking survivors’ stories,  will make decisions from a survivor's perspective and learn about outcomes while experiencing some of the barriers survivors face in accessing care and safety. Part 2 is a follow-up discussion and activity practicing how to navigate patient interviews in safe and supportive ways. Participants will understand and apply key concepts of culturally-humble counseling skills; equitable, healing-centered communication; and responsible language choices. There will be time to compare, discuss and analyze practices from lived experiences that either reduce or create barriers for patients accessing and returning to care.
