Title : The role of telehealth in postpartum depression screening

Abstract:

Postpartum Depression goes underdiagnosed due to the stigma surrounding mental health. Many women will have long term effects on their mental health staring with postpartum depression Postpartum depression can have also have long term effects on the newborn. Typically, postpartum visits will occur at four- and six-weeks following delivery. By this time, many women are experiencing signs and symptoms of depression or anxiety. The implementation of this project is to create a comfortable setting where women were screened for depression and/or anxiety at two weeks postpartum. With this implementation, scores were statistically significant in the decrease of scores at two weeks versus four weeks.

Biography:

Samantha Palmer is currently a student in the Doctor of Nursing Midwifery program at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She currently is a Family Nurse Practitioner in a rural OB-GYN setting in Virginia.
