Title : The impact of localized liposuction versus injectable lipolysis of anterior abdominal wall on the improvement of pregnancy rate in obese PCOS patients

Abstract:

Excessive amount of weight is a common characteristic of the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The incidence of obesity in PCOS varies between 35% and 80%. A higher prevalence of anovulation has been observed in obese compared to nonobese women with PCOS. Hyperandrogenism and insulin resistance are important causes of anovulation and may be deteriorated by obesity in PCOS.

The present work aimed to demonstrate the impact of reducing abdominal fat via liposuction and injection lipolysis on pregnancy rate in obese infertile PCOS female patients.

Patients and Methods: The present prospective cohort study was conducted at Queen canter Cairo where the Obese or overweight infertile women within the reproductive age with menstrual irregularities, for at least one year enrolled in the present study. These abnormalities were confirmed based on laboratory, and ultrasound evaluation. The procedure was done under local anaesthesia and sterilization with betadine with small stabs in targeted areas.

Results: A total of 16 female patients with established infertility of more than one-year duration were included in this study. Patients were furtherly assorted based on fulfilling Rotterdam criteria into two groups: Group (A) including 8 patients were subjected to liposuction and group (B) encompassing eight patients were subjected to localized lipolysis by injections (BBC Otesaly. Amp)

Pregnancy rate in group 1 (liposuction group) was 46% while it was 44% in the lipolysis group

Conclusion: Localized fat reduction through localized liposuction is a rapid and helpful method for enhancing pregnancy rate among obese PCOS patients as well the aesthetic look of these women.
